What Causes Man Boobs?

One of the most devastating things that can happen to a boy during adolescence is for him to develop man boobs. The fact of the matter is, these breasts can not only occur on a boy during adolescence but they can also occur on a man even when he is 40 years old or older. The embarrassment that is caused by growing breast as if you were a woman can cause you to stay away from people and creates a social disease that is almost unparalleled by any other. The fact the matter is, there are many different things that would cause a man to begin to grow breasts. Here are some of the most common causes.

The actual condition which causes man to grow breasts is called gynecomastia. It is typically experienced during puberty and is a problem in which the male body will begin to produce additional estrogen and stop producing as much testosterone that is necessary for a growing boy. This would cause the mammary glands to activate and grow as if they were a girl. All males have the chemical known as estrogen in their body but they have it in much lower quantity than a woman does so it is not abnormal for this to get out of whack in one way or another. If a boy is suffering from this type of condition there is little that can be done other than waiting for him to grow out of it. This typically happens within a year or two.

About 20% of all cases of manly breast occur as a result of medication. Some of the offending types of medication include cimetidine, spironolactone and finasteride. These would have the same effect on the body as the actual medical condition, gynecomastia. They would increase estrogen production and reduce testosterone in the male body. If you are on a new medication or have been taking a particular medication that might be affecting one of your glands, talk to your doctor about the possibility of it causing you to grow breasts. A simple switch in your medicine may be able to take care of the problem.

The most common reason why a man would grow breasts is because they are overweight. Most men tend to gain weight around their middle and it is not impossible for their particular makeup to cause them to store the fat on their chest. If this is the case with you, a little bit of diet and exercise will go a long way in reducing these fat stores.

It is not normal, nor is it natural for a male to grow man boobs. For that reason, you need to find out what the underlying cause is so that you can treat the symptom which is occurring in the form of enlarged breasts. Once you get the underlying cause out of the way your breast will return to a normal size again.
